A Journey of the Soul
and the Senses
Hearing the word olive grove, if you let the camera of your imagination wander among centuries-old olive trees, you will see countless scenes and images spanning the ages—visions that seem to belong only in fairy tales and films.
It was this magical word, together with these vivid images, that inspired us to share the joy of experiencing the magic of past centuries with others. That is why we opened the gates of our own Messinian Land Olive Grove.
Covering 50,000 square metres, this remarkable olive grove is home to olive trees that are up to 1,000 years old, making it one of the oldest olive groves in the region of Messinia. Our land’s centuries-old tradition of olive cultivation has shaped an extraordinary landscape of endless olive trees stretching as far as the eye can see.
At the heart of this vast olive grove, we have sought to preserve an oasis of tradition while respecting the natural landscape and its timeless beauty. We have deliberately avoided unnecessary luxury or intrusive development, allowing the grove to remain authentic and true to its character. Our wish is that every visitor, as they enter and walk among these ancient olive trees, can imagine the very first people who planted them—perhaps dressed in the simple cloaks of antiquity.
This olive grove has nurtured
hundreds of generations.
Every time we walk beneath these ancient trees, we are filled with a sense of awe. It is this feeling of wonder that we wish to share with others—to inspire a deeper appreciation for trees, nature, the olive tree, and the divine gift of olive oil.
Get to Know Us
The Sarantakis family has cared for this olive grove for nearly two centuries. We are located in Mavrommati, near Messini, in the heart of Messinia, Greece.
Our estate is easily accessible, just a short drive from Kalamata International Airport, the sea, and the town of Messini. At the same time, it remains peacefully secluded, preserving the timeless charm, serenity, and authenticity of an unspoiled natural landscape.
Discover Unique Experiences in the Olive Grove
Beyond the natural beauty we have already described, we are delighted to offer you:
- A guided tour of our animals: chickens, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, turkeys, bantam chickens, rabbits, lambs, kids, and many more.
- After the tour, a beautifully designed traditional area beneath the olive trees awaits you, where we will offer you refreshing water, juices, soft drinks, and delicious food.
- Olive oil tasting and an educational seminar.
- Honey tasting and an educational seminar.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to purchase products from our estate and from small local producers: olive oil, pistachios, figs, herbs, Kalamata olives, and many other local delicacies.
Tracing the Steps of Palamas
Our great poet, Kostis Palamas, inspired by the grandeur of the olive tree, wrote in 1882:
“Wherever fate may lead me to dwell,
my fruits never leave me;
even in the depths of my old age,
I find no shame in my labour.
God has blessed me,
and I am filled with abundance.
I am the honoured olive tree.”
This “blessed tree” is also our guiding light. It inspires us to share with all our visitors the knowledge, love, history, and respect we hold for nature and the timeless gift of the olive tree.
